THIS IS US!
MISSION HISTORY NOW
MISSION
Coffee Cup is a theatre collective that develops, writes and
performs original,
actor-driven theatre. The Company provides its members with a
flexible forum
within which they can experiment freely.
We take liberties with genre, mood and form while staying accessible.
Coffee Cup aims to shine a humane and humorous light on the small,
everyday relationships and interactions which define so much
of our lives,
and yet are so often taken for granted.
HISTORY
Coffee Cup (a theatre co.) was formed in 2004
from the desire to tell a story.
Well, five stories. Those stories comprised our first show: Turning
Tables.
In April of 2004, we all answered the sameadvert in Backstage.
The call was for
actor/writers to perform their own materialin a night of monologues.
This night never
took place. The producers pulled the plug, and that was that.
Another failed audition.
Or so we thought. A few months later, we all got an email from
a fellow auditionee.
Did anyone want to make a show? We answered it. Five strangers
started to write
a show together. That show was Turning Tables. We opened to great
acclaim and
played to sold-out houses at Collective:Unconcious in the Fall
of 2006.
A failed audition? Not quite. Coffee Cup (a theatre co.) was
born.
We then went on to create our second original
show, Standing Clear,
which played
for four weeks at the Access Theater in June of 2008.
